Remember When life was so much easier

Life has been so busy with raising children, running a business, working fulltime you sometimes forget the simple things in life. Remember how things were when you were younger. Today there is so many chemicals and additives added into our everyday items. This year our family is trying to llive a more natural life. This blog will contain recipes, gardening tips, links to other blogs who share the same passion as I do.

Time for the move

Well you would all know that we are finally about to move.  We are not moving far but back into Redcliffe in what I hope a quiet area.  It looks like that but I suppose I also said that about the house we have called home for the last 18 months.  I am sad to say goodbye to my vegetable patch but I know it won't take long to establish a new one.
Darling hubby will finally have his man cave which I hope now means his  crap his treasures will no longer take up room in the house.  He is the only male I know that has over 30 hammers.  Don't ask why he needs so many.  Plus along with all his other stuff.

There are also some great storage options for me in this house.  Being a highset with internal stairs the owner has built one very large cupboard/room under the stairs.  This will be a great area to store all my preserves etc.  Any way once moved and settle another vegetable patch will begin.

Hopefully photos of the garden to be posted.

Friday Findings

So much is happening at the moment in my family I am amazed I am managing so well for a change.  The last couple of weeks mum took ill and had spent the last 2 weeks in hospital.

Work has been sort of busy but more of a rollercoaster at the moment.  Depending where I am working from, will alter my mood and feelings.  Last week a fantastic week but this week it has been totally different.

Our house moving days are coming closer. Only a couple more weeks until we will be in our next home.  A step closer to our dream.  I have told Bill that this is the last move until we buy our own piece of property. Still a bit more to pack up and it will be all done.

Tomorrow I am off to Ipswich to the markets.  I love this market but working fulltime and doing markets is starting to take a toll on my life.  There is so many things I want to do on weekends so now I am rethinking monthly markets.  May be next year a complete cut down.

The one thing I really enjoy is my garden.  My beautiful patch of edible goodies are about to be someone elses haven.  It won't take me long to do another garden.  But look below and so many hidden treasures in it.  My sunflowers have just budded.  I hope I get to see them.  Radishes are plenty just like the lettuce, carrots, zuchinnis.  Rhurbarb is there and the tomatoes are growing so great and what about the cabbages and the broccoli.  Oh well I should manage to harvest a few before we leave.  I just hope the next tenants enjoy it and continue growing vegetables in it.  They are going to have a fantastic summer crop.

Have a great weekend everyone.  I know I shall be.

The chemical maze

Carrots

Have you been watching the Current Affairs shows lately. I previously blogged about the frozen vegie saga here in Australia where some of our major companies are buying the vegies from china. Surprise surprise another blow to our Aussie Farmers. Well I've taken a stand and no longer support these companies. I buy Australian Fresh Fruit and Vegetables or use the ones from my garden.

Lots of lettuce

Ample Zuchini's

Nasturuims are in abundance.

Cabbages will be ready to havest shortly.

My daughter has all my other fruit trees and herbs at her place until we move to our new home at the end of the month.  The lemon tree has little lemons on it which is exciting.

This week on the TV it was all about the chemical maze and the amount of chemicals that are added in our foods.  We all know they are there.  I think we all need to be more aware of what the companies are adding in our foods.  Are they trying to kill us just so the food looks more appealing.

Years ago I place my son William on the Fail Safe diet and it worked wonders.  I truly recommend this for anyone who has children who are displaying some behaviour issues.
I have the most amazing grandchildren and my eldest has been diagnosed with Autism.  My daughter has now downloaded the app for her phone for the list of additives that need to be avoided.  She was amazed on the amount of food in the supermarket which had these in.  Which brings me to this mornings time in the kitchen.  My grandchildren love cordial.  They don't have lots of it but I know myself I do love a glass every so often and now the summer is coming it will probably me consumed a little bit more.  She didn't buy cordial this trip as they contain the additives that are not good.

Good old mum to the rescue.  Homemade Orange Cordial.  The dilemma was the amount of sugar used but being cordial you don't drink it straight.  Recipe below if anyone wishes to try it.  Must be kept in the fridge and used within 6 weeks.

1kg sugar
1 litre water
juice of 10 oranges.

Dissolve the sugar in the water over gentle heat.  When sugar has dissolved add in the juice and stir.  Cool then pour into clean bottles.

Orange Cordial

Have a great weekend everyone.  Now back to the packing.
